This Isn't Top Scallop

Supper club branched into a smaller group of 2 for a great meal at the Dining Room at the Langham, in old Pasadena. For all the top chef fans, it's most recent top chef winner Michael Voltaggio's new restaurant. And...this is one of the BEST MEALS I've ever eaten!! EVER! Another highlight was that our waiters kept coming out with "surprises" from the chef because "Chef Michael wants to make sure you're having a great time." Even though we saw the waiters give these special surprises to everyone they were still awesome and I just know that Chef Michael wanted ME to have a great time.

First they brought us sourdough bread, and rolls that had been baked with bacon:

Served with 3 types of butter: Salted, Goat's Milk butter, Unsalted Vermont Butter

Then they brought out some type of amazing herb cream puff with a jellied lollipop:

And then we got to pick 3 courses each. It was really hard. We chose:

Halibut Cheeks:
Red Curry, Coconut Rice, Baby Leeks

Soft Shell Crab:
Cornflake Crust, Old Bay Sauce, Sweet Corn

Foie Gras Terrine:
Strawberry-Yuzu, Arugula Cake, Minus 8 Vinegar

Veal Sweatbreads Tempura:
Kale, Buttermilk, Mustard, Potato Puree

Wagyu Short Rib
Potato Confit, Nantes Carrot, Bone Marrow, Coconut Soubise

Kurobuta Pork Belly:
Bok Choy "Kim Chi," Sweet Potato Preserves, Peanut Butter Powder

Desserts:
First they brought out some futuristic coffee ice cream:

Chocolate Caramel Ganache:
Chocolate Sorbet, Salty Hazelnut Praline, Cocoa Tuille

And a pistachio dessert, with special nitro-oxidized etc. technology

Then we got a surprise from the chef: Passionfruit candy wrapped in edible rice paper SUHPRISE! Macaroons, and Chocolate lollipops with pop rocks. Bam!

Fraiche: Culver City

"Rustic French & Italian, reminiscent of tasting one’s way through the European countryside, emphasizing market-fresh, seasonal ingredients."

Episode 1 of Supper Club, which took place in January, has but one lonely picture of a half eaten plate:

Comments from this dinner included:

"This burgundy is fabulous!! Four stars."

"Yeah but could you really be arrested for that?"

"I'll have the monkfish. She'll have the marshmellow pumpkin soup. I don't need to order soup because I'm going to eat hers."

"No I haven't bought the superdeluxe tan package from DarqueTans.... but thank you for noticing."
